What we do during the year

In March, when the soil has begun to dry, Martin prepares the ground for planting. He selects only the very best plants. He is seen here examining a 3-year old Noble Fir plant prior to planting. It will take another eight years before this plant will be a 2-metre high Christmas tree.

Shearing trees is necessary to ensure that the tree that you buy will fit neatly into the corner of your sitting room. This is a skilled operation. The trees that Martin is shearing here are about 6 feet in height and, when they have put on their new foliage and new leader, will be ready to harvest next Christmas.
In August those trees that are suitable for our discerning  market are carefully selected and tagged.
In late November Martin cuts, bales and palletizes the trees for this year's market. The photo on the right shows another pallet being loaded onto a truck for shipment to one of our customers.
